The One Place Where Smelly Feet is Not a Laughing Matter

Allspice - The Cure to Smelly Feet?
by Dr. Roseline Hamsley

There are more than 101 remedies to smelly feet however it would seem that research indicates that one of the first and most effective (even used in the French army apparently) remedies widely used and documented is the Allspice dried fruit or any other derivative product based (e.g. lotions, colognes etc.)

Allspice is not, as is mistakenly believed by some people who have only come across it in ground form, a mixture of spices. It is actually the dried fruit of the Pimenta dioica plant. The fruit is picked when it is green and unripe, traditionally they are then sun dried. When dry they are brown and look like large brown peppercorns where in itself would already produce a very spicy aromatic flavor.

Allspice is most commonly sold as whole dried fruits (slightly bigger than a peppercorn) or as a powder. The whole fruits have a longer shelf-life than the powdered product and produce a more aromatic product when freshly ground before use. Fresh leaves are also used where available: they are similar in texture to bay leaves and are thus infused during cooking and then removed before serving. Unlike bay leaves, they lose much flavor when dried and stored. The leaves and wood are often used for smoking meats where allspice is a local crop.

Without going too far into its other uses we will concentrate on how it is beneficial for us in alleviating smelly feet. There is a certain element in allspice that has anti-perspirant properties. When allspice is added to your skin it will reduce the sweating to a certain degree which as we know is very important in combating smelly feet because bacteria needs a warm damp area to live and spawn.
