The common cause of smelly feet is the metabolizing of sweat and minerals by bacteria. It is this by-product that firstly creates the foul smells and if not addressed will also cause feet ailments such as athlete’s foot or even jungle rot. The easiest and most common approach to deal with smelly feet is to start at its core. Since bacteria requires a damp and moist area to survive, which sweat provides, reducing the level of moisture at the feet will reduce the amount of bacteria and thus reduce foot odor.

As with the case of socks, wearing stockings can contribute quite substantially to smelly feet. This is because stockings will hold moisture and sweat at the feet making an ideal environment for both bacteria and fungi to grow and spawn. The situation is particularly true if stockings are worm with close ended shoes or shoes which do not let much ventilation in.

If you are a sufferer of foot odor the choice of stockings are of particular importance as certain material hold sweat and moisture better than others. The worst type of stockings to use are ones made from man-made materials such as polyester. Fabrics like polyester do not hold moisture and sweat thus contributes significantly to smelly feet by keeping the moisture and sweat at the feet. Stockings made from natural fibers such as cotton can absorb moisture more readily and should be worn by those who suffer from smelly feet.

An addition point to note here is that the cleanliness of the stockings should also be kept to the highest level. Stockings that absorb more sweat and moisture tend to be harder to wash and warrant extra effort to ensure it is always clean. Always make sure that the stockings are also thoroughly dried before use as any extra moisture will also lead to foot odors.
